The pink color in Himalayan salt is from its nutrient properties: traces of potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron. These properties help reduce the sodium amount and provide more beneficial qualities than other salts. Salt is still something we must manage wisely and be careful with our energy intake, because too much salt can still throw our body functions and chemistry out of balance. However, our body needs salt to manage fluid production and flow. When we have too little salt, our body has trouble absorbing and maintaining fluid. Therefore, we may be dehydrated and malnourished due to the body struggling to absorb water and nutrients. Too much salt causes our body to act as a sponge and retain too much fluid or too many toxins. Our body’s energy is stressed, so it still may shoot the nutrients out without absorbing it, but not filter out the fluid and toxins as it should. This is the ultimate job of the kidneys. High salt and sugar levels can lead to Kidney issues (minor things from kidney stones to more serious issues like Diabetes and Kidney Failure).
When salt, especially Himalayan salt, is in the right balance it can be quite healing. Everything from walking into the ocean to swishing our mouth with salt when we have an ulcer to foot soaks and salt lamps can be a form of natural healing from salt. Salt can be a way to cleanse and create harmony and a balanced flow in the body. Like everything, it comes down to mindful living: choosing the right portions, sources, and amounts of exposure. Understanding your salt levels is an individual journey, because it depends on your present diet choices and daily exposure rates.
Personally:
-I have a salt lamp in each room. I only have it on a few hours before coming into the room and while in the room. With working from home, mostly internet based, I depend on my salt lamp in the office as it helps remove negative ions in the air and from electrical currents. This helps cleanse the air in the room and in my body’s environment to balance the production and flow of energy. (It may seem hard to believe, but I definitely notice a difference. However, the “cleaner” my body and environment is, the more I notice it, because my body depends more on the natural flow of energy now. My senses are more sensitive and aware of polluted or toxic states and energy levels. )
-I always try to be mindful of my salt levels in my eating habits. I can tell when my body is bloating and swelling from too much salt. This inflammation is typically due to a processed food choice or indulging in a salty carb treat (like too many potato chips). I can tell when my body is lacking salt when I feel like my body is absorbing nothing; when I feel depleted of energy - can not get enough water no matter how much I drink or food goes straight through. As a Crohn’s patient finding the balance between inflammation and food absorption is often a tight-rope walk. Crohn’s patients really struggle to absorb nutrients, therefore crave the salt, but we are so sensitive to every little thing that salt can instantly cause swelling and inflammation leading to more pain and damage on the flow of everything. Many digestive issues are similar in the sensitivity to triggers and the struggle of having to create the balance in every little choice and detail of the food journey.
-I love using and making Himalayan salt into my body scrubs, soaks, and lotion bars. There are so many recipes for creating your own healing body care products. Stay tuned for recipes on the blog!!!

Life will always be chaotic. The waves will keep crashing in. The currents may be strong. It is important to not resist this natural flow and learn the Roots and Rhythms to go with the flow. We cannot control the world around us, but we can control our world within; we can Calm the Sea Within. How we act and react determines our own flow. Be sure to check out the Calm the Sea Within page: here to learn more. Browse below for today’s insights and brief activities.
Connecting with a calming water environment is a great way to get in touch with centering self; connecting the world within to the world all around.
Learning to channel and release energy through mindful movements is also very important. A common root cause of outbursts or allowing emotions to rule our flow is when they stay stored in our minds and bodies for too long. Engaging in mindful movements is a way to constructively work through our stored energy. This circulation and release of energy can help us journey to peace and clarity.
These last two videos happen to be moments of synchronicity for this lesson. I was looking back through content and was reminded of a lesson I did many moons ago about Jellyfish, the wonders of the ocean, and Calming the Sea Within. I find the way jellyfish move so enchanting. Their tentacles are going this way and that yet in a composed rhythm. This is just a clip of vibes. The sketch video was a magical day when everything I listened to fell write in sync with the content and sketches I was working on. I was listening to Eivor’s full album for the first time (English Version) and as I was sketching the words were so in rhythm with what I was drawing and things I had been writing. The moments were not planned, the stars just aligned for the vibes to manifest!!!

Reiki and Relationships focuses on the importance of intimacy among couples. Being intimate with one another goes much deeper than sensual chemistry. As Twin Flame Empaths Devin and I never had a choice but to be fully honest with one another, because we could instantly sense when the others’s energy was off. However, we were very young when we first started dating. We started off with an unexpected powerful friendship; opening the doors to one another’s souls. When we started dating, we were living in the moment and being true to the natural flow of it to see where it led us. Two years later and we were still together. Young, but serious. We still had our eyes strongly focused on the future and our responsibilities, but the roots of our love for one another were deeper than we ever could have imagined. At this time though, life was dramatically changing as we were heading our separate ways to pursue our path. We decided to remain together and do our best with long-distance. We made a pact to value our honest friendship above all else and to always be open and to come to one another if we started having concerns or doubts about our direction or what we want or need out of this relationship and world. Life presented us with many tests and challenges, but we stayed true to always coming to one another first. Actually, sometimes Devin and I were a little too honest with each other. Especially, after moving in together. We would just tell each other the cold, hard truth; all the things that are hard to hear, but all the things you need to hear to deal with your root issues. As Empaths we could always see each other’s true self and the roots of behaviors. Therefore, we could call each other out on it, but the hard part is learning how to root through it all. We all have triggers and root issues that are hard to face about what happened to us in life, why we are the way we are, or the things about ourselves that are difficult to accept. Human nature is to fight or flee. Often, when we are confronted with such things our instinct is to react in such a way. Learning to understand the intentions of how and why it is being confronted is very important. It is also important to Calm the Sea Within to not allow the instincts to take over. When we are calm, still, listening, patient, and are committed to doing the root work, then we discover how to create a better flow forward. Both sides have to be fully invested though in order for the root work to flow in the relationship. Each person has to do their own root work and learn how to bring that together. Reiki and energy work can be very helpful with doing the intimate root work of dealing with the deeper vibes.
Stay tuned for a Reiki Intimacy & Relationship Guide. Meanwhile, be sure to learn more about what Reiki is on the Reiki page in the previous lesson or click: here. We share energy and intimacy in many ways; making and sharing food, holding hands, and more. Learning to vibe and meditate together on even deeper levels can sometimes be an even more powerful tool than conversation, because remember: communication is more than just our words.
Engaging the senses while doing the energy work can help boost or soothe the mood. Wine and Root is our Friday night date night in #dailyroots. Date night can be for couples, but even if single date night activities can be important energy work with self-care and personal development.
Three easy desserts we love to set the vibes are: ice-cream, Godiva pudding, or yogurt bowls.
Getting the most out of one grapefruit:
-Using the grapefruit in the yogurt bowl or ice-pops (Ice-pops = mix the grapefruit with yogurt & freeze).
-Shaving the zest into a coffee scrub exfoliating mix (body scrub = used coffee grounds, grapefruit zest, Himalayan salt, and pure castle soup).
-All purpose cleaner with vinegar, the leftover grapefruit peelings, and optional: dried mint or herb of choice.
I love creating literal Mosaics, but as we often talk about with the Mosaic Project; it is also a metaphor for piecing together life. When I started my creative, healing spirit quest many moons ago, awakening into realizations and developing my vibes and flow was not a one milestone ordeal. There were major moments of awakening epiphanies, but most discoveries came in the form of pieces. Pieces I would have to do the energy work with to better understand how it fits. When I did this, I often discovered some amazing synchronicity and patterns; from the little things to the big things. Example: Three of the art pieces below were significant pieces to creating my personal story. These pieces were the brighter side of my work and the side of me that was fighting through all the pain and darkness to believe in my Empath connections and intuitive gifts. The owl magnet in the middle is part of a series I was creating when I was trying for a child and developing my sapling curriculum. The magnets I found years later in a store while on a trip that reminded me of the vibes I started the journey with many moons ago and was symbolic to surviving a lot of challenges and staying true to the path. The timing of finding those magnets was like a perfect little summary to closing a major chapter of a 6 year Spirit Quest of many struggles, developments, awakenings, and milestones. Sometimes we are so focused on looking for the BIG answers and signs, that we forget how all the little details are a part of the mosaic; without all the pieces, there is no big picture.
The Spirit Quest may have often been fueled by coffee in the a.m. & whiskey in the p.m., which is much of how Whiskey Moon Roots came to be!!!
Power of the Full Moon & Feminine Force
Feminism often gets a bad rep due to some who maybe push it too far and the fear of power shifts. Men often assume it is to punish them or eliminate them from the equation, but it is quite the opposite. It is often simply about recognizing and appreciating the value of the female voice, persona, and abilities. For too long women have often been diminished, under-minded, misrepresented, taken for-granted, and underestimated. For too long women have been taken out of the equation. Therefore, most female-empowered movements are about saying, “ we are more than what society has told us we are allowed to be”. We are wise, strong, and powerful!!! The amount of things women have to go through in this world is often inconceivable to many men. The amount of natural pain and inexcusable abuse women often undergo to just try to exist requires the upmost physical, mental, emotional, and social strength. Many men or other gender/sexual orientations who have developed empathy or have been taught respect and appreciation for such or have experienced certain traumas can relate to the struggle of empowerment and equality. Devin and I do not believe feminism is to eliminate masculinity and other identifications from the equation; it is to strengthen the bonds between all human life and create a collective of mindful and respectful individuals. There will always be certain imbalances in equality and forces of unfair power to fight, but it is about creating a population that is more accountable and mindful of such, not by simply acknowledging it, but truly standing up for it through every choice and action in daily living.
Femininity and masculinity are a part of all of our energy roots: we are born from the male seed and feminine egg coming together and we connect with the feminine and masculine forces of nature in all things. How we perceive and develop those traits within us is our journey. However, I personally believe we are our best selves when we honor this energy as a collective; appreciating how both of these forces of energy are more than what they seem and contribute to the vast flow of all energy. When we honor this and accept that there are things we may not understand, but are willing to keep working to do so, then we are doing our best to respect all factors of the equation and creating space for harmony, power, and growth.
The moon is most often represented by feminine energy due to the deep intuitive, creative force of feminine nature. The moon moves in cycles and phases to create the rhythm and flow of life. Today’s meditation is to honor the vital role feminine energy has in all of our lives and the flow of all life. This may be an energy you feel far away from or have deep-rooted established beliefs, but today, try to expand those thoughts beyond your perception or do some energy work to try to further connect to the flow of this energy. Give a shout-out today to the women in your life who inspire you to rise with strength and courage! Self-care is important everyday, but today, go the extra mile to really soak it up. A glimpse of a few things from my day:
Whether your village of women are close by, spread out near and far, or you are celebrating with meaningful items from the women you admire or love - it is important to honor that ancient old concept: “it takes a village”. Sometimes when we are struggling we may feel so far away from our village or we may be struggling to find harmony or connect, but keep doing the self-care and energy work, because first the power must come from within. The more we keep doing the work to become the woman we want to be, the more we do the work to be true to our deepest, inner-self, then the more we will find or reconnect with those who are meant to be a part of our village. It may be finding a book that inspires you written by a woman to reconnecting with a friend or a loved one to meeting a new friend.
Before I get to some of the special items in these pics, you may want to try this first: Mocktail Mule !!
I use to love my mules, but while detoxing over the years and now pregnancy, it’s a no on the alcohol, but those cravings still exist. This gives me the perk I need:
-soda water
-squeeze of grapefruit
-few shavings of fresh ginger
-Optional: little sprig of mint and splash of lime juice
Items:
-Many of the special items pictured were gifted from friends or my moms.
-A woman owned Biz I definitely want to shout-out to that has been helping me survive pregnancy is: Pink Stork. A military spouse created this company when she was becoming a mom and wanted products with healthy, natural ingredients. Shop it through my thrive discount: here !!!
-Another shout-out is to the book Blossoms and Bones by Kim Krans. I have always connected with her art style and content. When I first discovered the Wild Unknown a few years ago, it reminded me so much of the creative, healing journey I was on. This book does so even more so!!! The way I have often dealt with my struggles is to turn inward into self-reflection, self-care, and sadly, sometimes self-destruction, but art, meditation, nature, and movement (dance, yoga, exercise) have always been my coping tools, which all became the Mosaic pieces of Rootin’ over the years. I use to feel very isolated and alone in my journey (even when close with others), but it was because I was in a place where I was not ready to share certain vibes and parts of myself with the world. The more I discovered people who I felt connected to through vibes and energy roots, the more I felt connected to the world as a whole and the more I gained clarity into the Roots & Rhythms of it all!!! I saw similar patterns and key terms I had long been writing and drawing about and came to realize it is a universal insight and energy connection that many people awaken to, but translate according to how it fits and flows in their journey. The vibes in Blossoms and Bones are ones that really resonate with me!!!
Nana had me take a picture of this picture quite a while ago to make it into something or post it or blog about it. I had been holding onto it with all of my other rootin’ pieces waiting for a natural alignment of where and when to use it. When I was working on planning the Virgo Full Moon lesson, I was scrolling through and came across it. Nana is a Virgo and all about talking to the moon at night, so the moment of alignment came to be. As we discussed in a previous lesson, the moon often represents feminine energy; the deeper, intuitive layers of life and self. The moon can seem so far away from us when it is in its darkest phases, but my, how we feel so lit up when the full moon is upon us! The moon is a strong force of nature, much like this group of women: sassy, classy, and strong!!!! Virgo is also a constellation and zodiac sign linked to feminine energy and mythology. It is an Earth sign ruled by the Throat Chakra! Connect with the Earth! Connect with your voice! Breathe! Hydrate! Connect with those who Empower you! Laugh! Dance in the moon light!!
If you are looking for other Earthy, Virgo things to do:
-Print the free coloring page and do a little art therapy with the moon. Click right on pic to save or print. Be sure to share & tag us: @rootinforyourlife on IG. (quote is by Oscar Wilde)
-Connect with nature. Chakras are all around in the nature within and the world all around. Explore! Listen to the birds! Breathe! Put your feet on the grass and in the dirt!
Life finds a way!!!
Daffodils are starting to pop-up and some are even in full bloom! Even when things still feel cold and gloomy, when we tune into the Roots & Rhythms of nature, we can feel the vibrations of new life beginning to bud and we can sense the spring in the air. The strength and beauty of a daffodil in bloom, the smell of a lemon, the thoughtfulness of a care-kit; these are the little things, the important things to our senses that remind us: life finds a way!!! From these vibes we are reminded to be patient, be kind!
Lemons are nature’s safe bleach. They are a natural anti-bacterial ingredient and great for cleaning the home and the body! Even the smell gives us a boost in energy! To make the cleaner in the picture: add lemons into a jar of vinegar and salt. You can decide on the balance of ingredients based on how strong you want it. I squeezed the lemons first, then added the juice water and the peelings to the jar of vinegar and salt. (I only used 2 tbsps of salt for a 4L jar). Optional: add a few sprigs of basil, mint, or rosemary if you would like to enhance the smell into an earthy, herbal smell.
With the season change and now other things in the air, this is the time of year that can hit hard with colds and allergies. Something we like to do is always have a care kit ready in our home for our own use and supplies ready to build care kits for those in need. Today, you may want to consider getting yourself a care kit together and maybe creating a container of supplies of things you can create for others.
An important part of getting back to the roots of living is learning how to reduce waste and adopting a DIY lifestyle. Humans use to be able to survive with less things and make something out of a few resources. Today’s #dailyroots is to find something from home or a thrift store you can make into something new. There are so many ways to re-purpose goods. Possibilities are limitless. Be sure to carve out time to see this project through. Even Therefore, try to choose something that will be useful and practical within your range of resources and time. Below is an example of one of my DIY projects. Some may just see a slab of wood, I see an opportunity to paint and transform it into something useful, cool, and new! A piece of wood soon became a wall-hanging decorative kitchen towel display. It is located at the station where I prepare soups and smoothies (and often need a towel). It is handy and livens up the wall space. The power of perspective (seeing the potential in something) is important, but creating the time to work on it is even more important. I say this from experience. When you see the potential in everything and have so many ideas, it can be easy for projects to begin to pile up and when this happens it leads to frustration, creative blocks, and unrealistic expectations of being able to get things done. It then takes up physical space and mental energy. Let your creative energy free by being mindful about your projects!!! When you can bring this flow to your home and lifestyle, it reduces the need for material items and empowers you to keep creating your resources. Start small!! Even if it is just transforming a slab of wood, be proud of your creative effort and progress.
Tonight’s Wine & Root is a challenge to unplug an hour before bed. Unplug by snuggling up with a book as a family or with self, do some meditation or yoga, or create spa night: soak your feet, make a face mask, rub some oils, etc. Play board or card games! There are many ways to unplug. The more technology came into our lives, the further we got away from the natural means of living and connecting. It is important to find life balance in staying connected to the origins of living and the new age. Tomorrow, plug back in and share your picture of your unplugged activity by tagging us @rootinforyourlife on IG!
It’s Saturday, so that means : #coffeeandcrystals
All in the nature of getting back to the Root & Flow of things, these lessons are often about how to unplug from life’s chaos and how to plug into the Roots and Rhythms of soulful living and holistic wellness.
Today’s vibes are about channeling spring/new life and patience. Even though we are on the cusp of spring, it will still take time and energy for things to come into bloom. Patience is about being fully present in the process. The butterfly had to survive its life as a caterpillar and its transformation in the cocoon to rise and greet the blooms. In this fast paced world, we have a tendency to just want the quick notes, headlines, and results. We may be trying to flow like that, but life is not. Life is still flowing moment by moment. Therefore, we must put each piece together to understand the full puzzle, we must do each stitch to create the picture, and we must read the whole book to get the full story. To be fully present, we must start co-creating with life on its pace: moment by moment, piece by piece, stitch by stitch, and breath by breath. We must be patient with the process. We must go through all the stages.
Today’s “Coffee”:
This actually has zero coffee in it, but it satisfies the “coffee vibes”. It also may provide health benefits. Turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon are often associated with anti-inflammatory remedies. Most spice origins begin in India and have been used and traded throughout the ages for flavor and natural medicine.
In this recipe, I use a pre-made chai blend by Tazo (a liquid on the tea aisle) . I use Califia Coconut Milk and Califia creamer (shop at a discount with my thrive code: here ). You can use grated fresh ginger or ginger powder, but I love the frozen cubes of ginger (you may be able to find in your local grocery store). You can also make your own frozen cubes of ginger to preserve fresh ginger longer by grating it into a small ice-cube tray and adding a little water to each section.
Today’s Crystal: Citrine
We will be discussing this crystal today and in an upcoming lesson, because it is often associated with Spring and Aries Season due to its properties and symbolism to new life and Solar Plexus vibes. When we think of the sun, the solar plexus, “citrus” energy, we think of the burst of life; life-force shining bright. The Sun is the central point of the universe in which we (the Earth and all things on Earth) rotate around. Citrine is a crystal associated with the Sun and life-force due to its color and properties. Like all things, crystals are formed and have different properties based on the presence of elements and atoms. Where and how crystals are developed in the Earth determines what they are made of and the properties they possess. However, the process in how it is retrieved and cared for also matters. Properties of crystals can be modified with certain elements and practices to create certain properties. Example: Citrine is a type of quartz and is a heat-treated amethyst stone to enhance the vibrancy. Amethyst is typically a crystal associated with deeper vibes (like moon and third-eye energy). Therefore, treating this crystal with heat to warm it up and transform it to a sun-like color is quite symbolic to the differences and the symbolism of the sun and moon, balance, and transformation. Therefore, Citrine is a great crystal for channeling the vibes of new-life, life-force energy, and the warmth and power of the Sun!
To go with today’s vibes, this video symbolizes new life after a parade of hardships. Mom and I watched this butterfly on the street of Farmville across from our favorite coffee shop after she finished her follow-up dermatology appointment. She had battled a right harsh skin cancer above her lip and had to have it removed with surgery. She had a ton of stitches inside and outside her mouth for a few weeks, but they did a great job at fully removing the cancer while causing minimal scarring and damage. She also did a great job at staying positive and powering her way through it. The timing of this of course was while we were already in the midst of so many battles of caring for loved ones and going through many deep-life transformations to find and create the right care for our family circle and individual life flows. We had already made it through a lot, so after making it through one more big thing, seeing this butterfly was a reminder of: Through the Fog there is Beauty and the value of patience in the process.
How can we find balance in communication?
Life can get very stressful, muddled, and foggy when communication is out of balance. Sometimes people have good intentions, but are unaware of how they are being ego-based and dismissive. Sometimes people are being too offensive. Sometimes people are being too sensitive. (These can be aggressive and defensive positions based on how life experiences have shaped someone or trigger certain emotions, actions, and reactions.) These are learned behaviors. There are times when each one of us may say something out of line and there are times when each one of us may take something a little too personally. We are all a work in progress. Therefore, we all must put effort into learning how to be more mindful with communication. Sometimes being mindful is learning how to better understand intentions, how to think before speaking, how to be inclusive to perceptions, how to listen or speak from the soul self, or learning when to shake things off and not take it personally.
When it comes to communication, it is important to remember the Power of Perception! We all see, feel, and experience things differently. If someone raises a concern, then try to get to the root of why something may make them feel such. Try to be open. Try to listen without a bias, aggressive, or defensive position. Try to take yourself (ego & shadow self) out of the equation for a minute of how something relates to you or what your beliefs/experiences are and try to listen from the deepest roots of your humanity (soul self). Try to respond in a mindful way. Be true to yourself and what is right for you, but try to be understanding of how/why someone else may feel or be experiencing life differently.
Devin and I are Empaths and have a natural link to the Power of Perception and understanding the Roots and Rhythms of the layers of self and intentions, auto-pilot/programmed behaviors, and triggers. However, it is like a muscle. It is still something we had to develop and continue working on daily. We know what it is like to be aggressive. We know what is like to be defensive. We know what it is like when the ego or shadow self takes over. Being too aggressive and too defensive is something we both have had to work on. Our mindfulness and inclusive perception have always been strong, but being human means having a lot of feelings and experiences that can trigger the aggressive or defensive (ego and shadow self) to come out. Sometimes we all have a tendency to come off too strong or to pull away and put up walls (it is the human instinct of fight or flee), so back to March 3rd: We have to Calm the Sea Within to be fully present, to release the ego and shadow self, and to listen and speak from the soul.
Everyone is on their own journey, fighting their own battles, experiencing their own struggles, seeing life through different perspectives, and trying to survive.
Devin and I both know what it is like to be in a dark, foggy state of mind. We know pain. We know trauma. We know panic. We know emotional distress. However, we know our own exeperiences of such. Even though we have further developed our Empath muscles and are mindful of many life experiences and perceptions, this still does not make us experts on others’ lives. We do not even consider ourselves experts in our own life, because being human comes with a lot of trial and error. Therefore, the best any of us can do is to try to do the work to be a mindful, compassionate, human each day.
I’ve often heard many people say to those suffering: “just let it go”, “just pray”, or I have even heard people say, “no matter what happens in life, I would never allow myself to slip into a depression etc”. I can relate to the intentions of what people are trying to say and do here. Sometimes, people are trying to say: “ you are not alone”, “ don’t give up”. Sometimes, they are uncomfortable and distant from the emotions and experiences someone is going through, so they turn to the age old words of encouragement. Sometimes, people have not been pushed to their limits and lack the understanding and experience of the hardships another person has gone through, so it is difficult for them to imagine how anyone/someone could allow their lives to be in such a state. Sometimes, people assume a person has it all together and has such a good life, because of how that person is able to pull themselves together and still be positive and functional, so they find it hard to believe when that person tries to express how much they are struggling or assume they simply have a low tolerance for being able to handle something. These circumstances are especially true for people who handle their matters privately, because little is known about a person’s life journey and all the factors that are contributing to their distress. Sometimes, someone is simply giving into the strong human instinct to be competitive and judgmental.
Being mindful of other people’s distress is about learning how to be supportive while keeping boundaries and not being dismissive of their pain. The above phrases that are very common are very dismissive and belittling to someone who is going through unimaginable things in their life. Here are a few examples of how to use those age old “words of encouragement” in an empowering way vs. a dismissive way:
Instead of: “Just let it go”, try: “I know you are struggling right now, but keep doing the work to find a way through it. Try not to let it consume you. Do your best to focus on other things in your life that give you joy or keep doing the work to find the things that will give you joy”. “It takes time, but it will be ok”.
Instead of: “Just pray”, try: “You are not alone. There are people who care about you. Even if you do not know them yet, there are people in this world who can relate. You matter to this world. Keep doing the work to find your way through this”. (Faith is an important thing to many people, but often when people have truly reached a dark place, the thing they are struggling with the most is their relationship with faith. Faith in a higher power can definitely be so far away from someone who is struggling to have faith in their self and in others. Therefore, the best way to nurture the relationship with the concept of faith is to encourage people to regain faith in their own abilities and in the goodness of others. It is up to each person to discover the beliefs best for them, but sometimes when people are in such emotional distress, it is because they no longer believe in their own power, the kindness of others, struggling with trust, or feel absolutely hopeless and helpless with the state of the world. The “big picture”, “higher purpose” can be overwhelming and abstract when people are trying so hard to do the work themselves to resolve their own root issues. No matter how much faith someone has in the power of prayer or in their beliefs, the common ground is: we all have our own mind, body, and soul and a lot can happen in life to stress those components of who we are, but it is ultimately our responsibility to find and create solutions for our own mind, body, and soul. The intention of “just pray” is often to remind people to create time to breathe and connect with the world to calm down and believe an answer will arrive in your journey. The message may be with good intentions, but it can also be very dismissive and come off as judgmental to someone who may already be dedicating their daily life to such and giving life everything they have to find a way.
General reminder: Never be judgmental of someone’s journey or compare how you would be able to do something better or say you would never allow yourself to become a certain way, because you never know what someone has gone through or is going through and you never know what may be ahead in your own journey. You never know how many odds may have been stacked against someone, how much pain they may be in, or how many doors closed on their journey. Sometimes life is about timing and placement. Sometimes, someone made it through a green light while another got held up because it was a red light; a factor of random selection. Whether life is in chaos or in rhythm with patterns, purpose, and choices, the point is about rising above tests and challenges in a way true to what is right for your life. You never know how many battles someone has had to fight to get where they are and how well they may have done so considering all the odds against them. We all want to give ourselves credit for our own progress, so sometimes we may get caught up in the ego self of saying “Well, I had all of these x,y,z challenges and odds against me, but I was able to do this, this, and this”. That is all well and good, but it is still your own journey. Someone else’s journey is incomparable and maybe inconceivable, because it was about their timing and placement in life, which depends on many factors of random chaos, experiences, purpose, perceptions, freedoms, resources, choices, etc.
Everyone has their own methods and tools for getting through the darkness and fog in life. Sometimes part of the struggle is someone is searching to find the methods and tools for positive coping resources. I personally, always turn to art to try to make sense of life, address my perceptions, and put together the pieces of my life (The Mosaic Project).
The videos below are one of the little random moments of syncronicity in the unvierse. The day this occured, I had dug up an old sketch of this skeleton I drew when I was in a dark, painful place. I wanted to add words and detail to it, so I carved a little time to do so. I decided to listen to the full album of Eivør the day I was working on a series of old sketches and with each sketch I was working on it was like the words from each song was lining up right in sync with my thoughts and vibes. These are just two little clips of how it lined up with the skeleton sketch.

The Root Detox is not an extreme cleanse. There are many cleanses and detoxes out there, like juicing or using certain products; I do not endorse or bash any, because I believe everyone has to find what is right for their own journey. However, I personally try to avoid short-term practices and pursue the term cleanse or detox as a daily part of my lifestyle. There are rituals I do throughout the day to cleanse my mind, body, and soul. We all also know though how life can get busy and many things can start to clutter our flow, this is when we maybe need to do a more intense detox or cleansing. I also feel very strongly about a detox not just being for the body, but for the mind and soul for whole, balanced wellness. If we only focus on cleansing the body, then two of our biggest roots may still be calling out for attention. Cleansing the body can help boost positive energy, which will ultimately benefit the mind and soul, but we still need to be mindful about addressing our whole wellness. Example: sometimes the reason a detox or cleanse may not work or have lasting results is because of a deeper root issue or a struggle in the mindset and commitment from the soul. Therefore, our Root of It Workshop is about how to make detox and mindfulness of whole wellness a daily part of your lifestyle and health rituals. Each day there are things weighing us down that we need to release; everything from our worries to something that needs cleaning in the home to maybe over indulging on a vice or food habit. The planner below is something you can use to help you with your daily detox. How you would like to use it is up to you. You can use it for each day, each week, or each month. If you are someone who likes to map out your goals for the whole month, then you may want to write all of your goals for the month and check them off as you go. If you are someone who is working on reducing expectations and working on being more fully present, then you may want to use this as a day planner. With that approach, it is advised to plan your goals the night before of what you hope to accomplish the next day. Wake up, greet the day, and review your planner. Check off your goals as you go and celebrate your progress. If you would like to use this for the week, set aside some time on Sunday to map out your goals for the week. Wake up each morning and review your plans. Check it off as you go and be proud of your journey! Whether you use it daily or monthly, I would still suggest sticking to one goal for each box. Sometimes our biggest struggle with wellness is the stress of expectations. When we commit to a health journey, sometimes we start with so many goals and not enough time or energy to meet those goals. Therefore, you should choose to use this planner daily, weekly, or monthly, based on where you are on your health journey. If you are just beginning to learn more about wellness, but struggling with time and commitment, then you should choose to use this monthly to give yourself more time to tackle your goals. One of the biggest factors to successfully transforming our lifestyle flow is uprooting old habits and establishing new ones by tending to the seeds daily. “It takes time for things to take root”. - Rootin’ Therefore, you may want to use the planner as a monthly tool and break the goals up by week. Example: Goal 1 under each category (Mind, body, & Soul) would be week 1 ! It is important to give ourselves time to establish and honor our goals and progress. If you are already in a full flow with your health and wellness rituals, then you may want to consider this planner for daily use. Maybe to simply chart your daily progress or to keep expanding your daily practice. Like I mentioned before, we all have things we need to detox and release. However, based on what is currently going on in our lives, where we are on our journey, and what the matters are we need to deal with determine how much time and effort it will take to tackle them. Therefore, we can never compare our progress or our methods to others, because we are all dealing with different issues with different perspectives and different timelines. We can root for one another though!!! The common ground is: we all have things we need to detox, and things we are trying to figure out in our lives. We can simply be there for one another by reminding each other: YOU GOT THIS!!! YOU HAVE THE POWER WITHIN!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! ROOT LOVE GROW ™ !!!!

Thinking about making meals from home can get overwhelming, especially if you are in the beginning of your journey. This is often because we have so many things we are trying to factor in about wellness. Plus, our brains can be limitless with brainstorming and overthinking at times. Getting to the root of it is about getting back to the bare essentials of survival; the ingredients each one of us need to best support our flow. Once you establish what those ingredients are for you, then you can create a weekly, balanced menu of your go to recipes. Save creativity for special days when you can dedicate more time to exploring and learning.
My Irish Roots come from my Grandaddy, so what better day to honor his memory than on today! This is quite the tear-jerker post for me. He and his dog, Bowser, just passed within these last two months. Their spirits were truly connected; they saved one another a few years ago and now, they are on the Rainbow Bridge together. The Rainbow picture in the top of this cover is actually a glimpse of a rainbow Mom, Dad, and I saw after leaving the funeral home after seeing his body for the first time after they had prepared it for visitation. Nearly every major death I have experienced, I have seen a rainbow a day before, day of, or the day after. This is why the Rainbow vibes are a major part of Rootin’ for your Life’s origin story from 20+ years ago. Discussions about universal energy and awakened energy connections are also a very important part of Rootin’s flow!! However, for today, to learn more about our Irish Roots, Grand’s energy and how he was a major part of Rootin’s origins, his life story, his final battle, and his connection to Bowser, read: here ! In true spirit to him, there will be a lot of love, thoughtfulness, dancing, and a lil’ bit of cussin’!
Spring is a time when our energy starts rising, but in this transformation of seasons we also typically battle colds or allergies. This spring we are in a totally different ballgame with the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As a household that has always battled major illness and auto-immune disorders we have always had to go to great lengths to care for our immune system. Over the years, we have worked very hard to do this from a natural, daily lifestyle approach. However, this virus targets anyone and everyone. There are those who are more vulnerable than others, but we all must be wise and safe. I already had to uproot my lifestyle many years ago to practice a “quarantine” lifestyle, so I could better manage my health needs and symptoms, so “isolation” for me feels quite normal. However, as a social butterfly, when I first had to adopt this lifestyle a few years ago, it was far from normal and it was terrifying to have to get back to the roots of self. Therefore, my heart is heavy for all who are having to drastically transform their life to manage this flow. I also believe things happen for a reason though because of the Power of Perception. We can choose to believe in the chaos and inconvenience or we can look at it as an opportunity to reconnect with our essential roots of humanity and home. We should be mindful of those who may be suffering and those who are experiencing tragedy in these times, but we should also look at this like a wake-up call for CORE CARE as humans ! Originally, this was going to be a simple post with my favorite spring essentials. With the times though, I feel it is important to expand on this topic and provide more insight. Therefore, I am creating a free-mini workshop to share more about CORE CARE; how to stay calm, care for one another, self-care, and immune system wellness!
The Grow phase is a part of everything we do at Rootin’, but it is most linked to and symbolic of Spring in the cycle of seasons. Like the seasons, life is a process of moments and phases coming together to create a movement, a flow, a journey! Welcome to Aries Season!!!
Aries is a fire sign ruled by the Solar Plexus Chakra. Explore the charts below for a brief overview! Today, is #coffeeandcrystals. Citrine is an important Aries crystal, so be sure to check out last Saturday’s lesson to learn more about the Citrine crystal!!!! Today’s coffee recipe is also below!!!
Aries can come off like a T-Rex. Even when they have good intentions, they are fierce!!! Fierce is not a bad thing, because being passionate and having initiative often leads to great accomplishments. They can also be the guide or motivator you need to help you on your path. However, due to an Aries’ fire-fueled soul, they can sometimes be over-zealous, lack mindfulness in the moment, be unaware of others’ needs and flow, or lack life balance. They have a lot of energy and a lot of passion they want to give, so they need to find the right pathways to be support their restless energy, fire vibes, and strong-willed life-force. This coffee recipe is an example of finding balance with a little heat, a little spice, and a little something to cool it down. It is also important, Aries’ peeps, to remember to slow down, take a breath, take a sip. An Aries may be one to chug their coffee down or eat a meal like it’s a race, but working on life balance and mindfulness may begin with learning to pace yourself with a cup of coffee: sip your coffee, let the flavor sink in. Remember, it is not just about the results and energy, it is about the experience!!!!

A Quick Look:
Aries are Fire Spirits ready to take on the world! This can be a good thing; they can conquer tasks that seem impossible and make actions happen faster than you can blink. However, sometimes you may not want to be in their way or on their path when they are on a mission or have already planned how they want things to go. Unintentionally, their passion and pre-disposition for leadership can unfold into a “my way or the highway” scenario. Aries are results-oriented. They sometimes focus on the destination more than the journey. They calculate the quickest route and are rolling with fast paced actions with high expectations of things coming to fruition as soon as possible. They also often expect once something is resolved or accomplished for it not to be a matter again. However, as we often talk about in Rootin’: life is a series of seasons and cycles, so many challenges, needs, and all the things we have to manage in life will be reoccurring in some way. Their fast-paced nature can be effective for getting things done and getting the ball rolling, but sometimes (whether by self or others) they may need a reminder every now and then to take some steps back…breathe… Calm the Sea Within… and practice a little more patience with trying to understand the journey. Their strong-willed focus sometimes sweeps them away, which may cause them to lose sight of how not everyone is on the same page or how they may be missing out on the purpose, intentions, and details of other paths, needs, or a journey as a whole.
Therefore, sometimes Aries gets a bad rep for being controlling, outspoken, pushy, aggressive, or rude. However, let’s remember all signs and all humans have their temperaments and their struggles. We all have qualities we have to be more mindful of and work on. Aries typically are aggressive, but this is not a bad thing, it’s just a matter of learning how to channel that aggression into a positive path. Therefore, they need constructive outlets to get their aggression out; vigorous activity, like kickboxing. I would suggest an activity where the only competition is self. Highly competitive environments may fuel their aggression in the wrong direction. Before giving into the adrenaline of competition, it is important for an Aries to better understand the battle and competition within their own nature and spirit.
However, the main thing we discuss in this podcast is an Aries meditation style. Meditation is a journey and not one size fits all. We all have different personalities, perceptions, and beliefs. We each have a different flow of life. Therefore, finding the right activities to best support our flow is super important. Like we discussed above, Aries are result-oriented and have a fast-paced nature. Therefore, when they begin a meditation journey they may struggle with patience and find their brains pushing towards or dwelling on the results or getting it done rather than experiencing the journey of it. They may have an expectation for immediate peace rather than understanding getting to a peaceful state is a reoccurring series and journey. Plus, peace only last a moment, because we are life in motion, so we have to create the peace in each moment. With all of this in mind, Aries may not find the best results in isolated, long meditations. They do better with meditations while on the go or while doing a physical activity. They do better with quick mantras; sayings they can repeat to themselves to to help them channel or calm their energy. They are often multi-taskers; calculating multiple routes to figure the most efficient, doing many things at once, or thinking of several things at a time. Therefore, they need meditation in short doses throughout the day rather than one long meditation. This is a mantra or a sentence, more-so a question Aries may need to focus on or use as a meditation prompt: “Hold up! Wait one moment, take a step back, close your eyes, and catch your breath: are you in alignment with the flow of things or are you forcing something to happen?” “Are you focusing on the expectations more than the experience?”
We are only targeting Aries, because of the Aries New Moon & Aries Season, but remember like in the podcast, we all have multiple signs in our Natal Chart, so Aries may be somewhere in our life flow of traits. No matter what signs are in our chart, we all have things we need to be mindful of and are working on to better create our life flow!
Aries may find themselves drawn to more of the “red foods” (spicey, heavy, greasy, salty, etc.) due to their fire-spirit nature, but they should be mindful of this due to their pre-disposition to higher blood-pressure. Red legumes, ancient grains, fruits & veges are essentials and are on the healthier side of things, so when craving the “red” try to go for those things, like: spicing up a quinoa or creating something with lentils and tomatoes. “Yellow” foods are also important for an Aries due to the Solar Plexus Chakra Connection and gut health: lemons, turmeric, ginger, squash, bananas, etc. should all essential staples in an Aries diet. Aries may experience muscle cramps often due to over-heating and struggles with hydration. The potassium in bananas can help with muscle cramping. Fruits and veges with higher fluid content like squash and pineapples help with hydration. However, know if you are struggling with other health-matters, sometimes fluid retention can be an issue and contributing factor to over-heating and swelling. When fluid retention is an issue, it often means the body is struggling to filter toxins from the body and storing toxins and fluid in the body rather than releasing it. Eliminating foods and habits that cause this to occur can gradually help restore nutritional and fluid balance. Therefore, doing our best to keep it light, lean, healthy, & clean is always the best choice!

A Few Tips for Aries Core Care:
Aries can overheat fast. When they are doing physical activity, they often do not need as much of a warm-up and have to be mindful of regulating their body temperature during an activity. When it is hot, being well hydrated, having cool rags, and/or good air-flow are important to helping an Aries regulate their body temperature. Something I loved for ball games is when my mom would freeze a wet wash-cloth and pack it in the cooler with an ice-pack. As a catcher in 100 degree weather, I was often pouring buckets of sweat. Those wet rags were a life saver!
Due to their over-heating nature, they may have a tendency to push themselves and once they make it through, then they crash and give into exhaustion. This can distress the muscles. Going from such an extreme state to a sloth state can cause the muscles and joints to become very tense, tight, and locked up. Therefore, it is very important for Aries to do mindful movements throughout the day to keep their muscles and joints active yet relaxed. After pushing through a vigorous activity, it is also very important to gradually cool-down and continue mindful movements throughout the day to prevent the muscles and joints from locking up.
When Aries overheats whether physically, emotionally, or mentally they may experience tension headaches and vertigo like symptoms due to it being their ruling center of physiology. Aries is also ruled by the Solar Plexus Chakra, so they need to be very mindful of their eating habits and gut health. With their fire-spirit nature, they also may be naturally more inclined to higher blood pressure. Therefore, nutrition, mindful movements, and stress management are so important for preventing their fire-spirit from blazing out of control.
Recap:
Hydrate!
Regulate Body Temp :
Brief Warm-Ups
Cool Rags / Good Air-Flow Areas during vigorous activity
Gradual Cool-downs after activity
Mindful Movements throughout the Day
Stress Management
Monitor Blood-Pressure
Gut Health, Light, & Hydrating Foods (watch out for the high-blood pressure foods: salty, heavy, greasy, etc.)
As we have discussed, Aries are very passionate! They have big hearts!! Therefore, even though they can come off a little too strong at times (or sometimes a lot), it is often a sign of how much they care. For the things and folks they care about - they would crawl through hell or walk to the end of the Earth and back. You also don’t want to mess with anything or anyone they care about, because the horns of the ram will be headed towards you. When an Aries finds the balance between passion and patience their heart of gold truly shines!!
With Covid-19 I was not able to get my hands on a pineapple, so I went another route with things I already had in the house. Check out the recipes and tips below.
Tip: Hanging dried Eucalyptus in your shower can help with sinuses, purifying the air, and opening up the breathing. (Be mindful if you have allergies to this plant).
Personally, I believe gifting is not about how much the item shines, it’s how much the soul of it shines! Items are just items. Items are how we express ourselves and experience life. Items can be symbolic to economic or social status, “fitting in”, sharing our vibes, creating our life flow, and connecting our worlds. However, everyone has different beliefs and definitions when it comes to what is valuable, what is abundance, what it is to be successful, and how they perceive status. For me, status, success, and abundance is about how much you live life with your heart and soul. I value the meaning and experience more than anything. I want to know: “what is its roots?” What’s the story with it? What’s the meaning of it? Where do it come from? Was it ethically sourced or made? Items may not be living things, but they do have soul! An item did not just pop into existence, it was created and crafted by someone, somewhere. I want to know their Roots & Rhythms to ensure they are being well supported for their efforts. Gifting or purchasing items should be about the connection and the experience. Some may see abundance as having multiples of everything; having “all the things” and living a life of luxury. We value being comfortable and indulging in life every now and then, but we still do our best to do so with mindfulness.
I’ve always said: “I don’t need fancy things. Give me a rock you found, something handmade, or something with a story” (as long as it is done so in a genuine manner with effort, soul, and energy). Thankfully, I have a guy that truly fits that flow. This #coffeeandcrystals feature is a cute little story about this Valentine’s Day, which also marked our 17 years of being a couple!! We normally do shared experiences for gifting; like going on an adventure, a concert, or eating out, because we like to save gifts for the random moments when it calls to our soul. Waiting for special occasions can sometimes seem more like obligation. Even though we like to honor those occasions, we typically save gifting for random, special moments (like when we connect with something that makes us think of the other person, etc). However, this Valentine’s Day, we had decided just to enjoy a nice evening at home and we had not said anything about gifts, but I guess we were thinking alike. That night, we both said: “I have a little something for you”. We come back into the room holding our boxes, and our boxes look the same. We each gave each other an engraved mug handmade from an artist. His mug was etched with an octopus that said: “I love you from the depths of my soul”. The mug he gave me were characters that look like us with the date of us coming together. It was such a magic moment of soul and synchronicity! I have many special stories of items and experiences like this. Since, it is Coffee & Crystals Day, I will share a brief story about two crystals/stones he gave me that I adore. Again, I am not an “item” person, so not much of a jewelry person, unless it has meaning or is hand-crafted from an ethical source, etc. I do love my handmade crystals and stones though, because they have such purpose and soul!!! You will often find my Amethyst or Jade necklace around my neck. They are both from Alaska when he was on a work trip. The Jade was hand-carved by a native tribe. It was carved into a spiral. The Amethyst is my birth stone and of course significant to the Third Eye Chakra, healing, and intuition. This too was hand-crafted.
Therefore, today, I ask you to think about what truly makes you happy? What truly fills your soul with life and positive energy? What makes you feel surrounded with abundance? Sometimes, we can be surrounded by so many things yet still feel hollow. This can even apply to the quantity of people. We may be surrounded by people or have an abundance of likes on social media, etc, but still feel empty or like something is lacking. It is often, because it is. That flow of abundance typically fades fast. Even if we keep getting those items or those likes that gives us an adrenaline rush of social status, then the moment passes and we are left having to repeat the cycle or on the hunt for the next best thing. True social wellness, is about the experience and the connection. It’s okay to indulge in life a little and create a flow of comfort, but my point today is; try to do so while being mindful. Know the Roots and Rhythms of how things flow into your life; where they come from, how they were made, who made them, does it have purpose, etc. Try to shop small, support local businesses, and source ethically made goods! Sip the good stuff, let the crystals shine, but honor the roots!
Today’s #morningmeditation:
“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”. - Audrey Hepburn
This is one of my favorite quotes and became a mantra Mom and I would say to help us through the day. I painted this when it became essential for Nana and Grandaddy to have 24/7 care. We were determined to keep them at home for as long as possible. The first year, before we had sitters, it was Mom and I rotating a few days at a time. Grandaddy’s Alzheimer’s had reached a full-blown state and Nana’s short-term/dementia issues had worsened. However, we still knew in our hearts and soul they needed to be together in their home, surrounded by their garden to keep what peace was left in their minds as much as we possibly could. This time of year, normally, the tractor would be planting fields and fields of beautiful fruits and veges. Even though this was no longer the normal, gardening activities, whether inside or out or just talking about them were often our go to resources for helping calm things down. We will cover those activities next month on the Laugh with Carol Blog. Meanwhile, today, I just wanted to share this quote. Grandaddy passed this year as you may have ready on a previous post, but the garden is still in bloom. Like I shared: when we put our hands in the dirt and get back to the Roots & Rhythms of the flow of life - we are all connected. This connection goes beyond time and space; it is the flow of all the vibes that were and all that will be. Therefore, today’s meditation is to simply reflect on this quote. Whether you simply plant one plant, plant a garden, just put your hands in the dirt of the Earth, or simply feel the grass, reflect on the resilience of the Earth; all that it has been through and how it finds its way. My Grandaddy loved this Earth and was such a fighter for good things to grow. He believed in the flow of all things. He believed everything had a right, a rhythm, and a soul to it. When we plant a garden, we are not only providing a life flow, but we nurturing the Roots & Rhythms of tomorrow. The trees we plant may live longer than us and be the keepers of our stories and continue to spread our vibes. Our energy will continue to flow forward through all the things we had a connection with. Caring for this Earth is an important part of our life journey. The more we connect with nature, the more we value the flow of all things, and the more we learn how to co-create our lives.
I planned this lesson before COVID-19, but because Rootin’ is all about getting back to the Roots of Life, most everything we do already fits with the flow of things. Mondays, we do Root Chakra stuff and recipes. Today’s main ingredient is: LOVE ! No matter what ingredients you are cooking with, flavor it with LOVE! Food is a journey. Sometimes, it can be frustrating and overwhelming, especially when we have not found our flow with it yet or fell out of practice with it. We both enjoy cooking. Like anything else, it requires energy. So even though we love it, there are days when we do not and there are a lot of times when we just aren’t feeling it. Food is a mood! However, we often find if we drag ourselves into the kitchen, explore our ingredients, and put on a little music, then we start finding our mood and energy for it. Today, you may not have many ingredients or you may not be experienced with diverse foods and flavors, but I challenge you to cook something made with Love. Use what you have. Create the mood. Make the best of it!
It’s that time of year where things are starting to bloom; life and energy is returning. Birds are singing. Bees are Buzzing. However, this spring, things are different. With the outbreak of COVID-19, life is in a very different flow. Folks have had to return to the roots of survivals and life essentials. Life has been uprooted for so many. Rootin’ for your Life was created around this principle; getting back to the roots to create a more sustainable life. No matter how well we have things together or planned out in life; storms happen and we have to adapt to weather those storms. The storm is a part of nature; the natural flow of life, but the storm is a reaction with meaningful purpose. Things within our nature can further stir the pot for storms to brew. When events of such magnitude occur, whether in our own life or on a global scale, it is often the universe screaming out reminding us of its power. It is calling to us to pay attention; to get back to the roots of living with mindfulness, purpose, and prioritizing essentials. It is a reminder we are visitors on this Earth; our time matters, but can come and go faster than we know it. Therefore, how we live each day is so important. Sometimes “living large”, does not mean extravagance and big adventures. Living large and living life in full bloom is to live with a big heart, make the most of each moment, and stay attuned to what matters most. “Bloom where you are planted”. COVID-19 took us by storm. These things happen and no matter how much we remember they can happen, there is no way to truly know or predict when or how. Therefore, we have to do what nature does best, we have to adapt. We have to “Bloom where we are planted”. Stay Safe! Be Well! Get through this the best you can! ROOT LOVE GROW ™ a little each day!! Live with a big heart. Stay Calm. Be patient. Shine your inner light. Bloom!
