Root & Flow Insights

Doses of Wellness in sync with the vibes and phases of the moon.

Beltane is an ancient holiday still practiced by many to mark the abundance of new life energy. Spring is in the air with things blooming, the sun out longer, and the vibes of life flowing!

What are some things you can do to help you feel the abundance of spring? Abundance is a mindset. Vibrant colors, enriching ingredients, and being connected to the Earth, are just a few general examples that help me feel the flow of Spring.

An important root of establishing a meditation and reiki routine is the basic concept: create time to check in with yourself and your family. “How are you” can become such a robotic thing to ask. Are we really tuning in? Are we really listening? Are we think about a billion other things while asking? If we are not fully present, then we struggle to create a connection with the flow of how we are others are really feeling.

A few essential things to do to create the environment for fine tuning this question:

-When you ask yourself this, take a minute to put your hands on your chest, or your shoulders, on your head (wherever you feel called to), close your eyes, and ask yourself: “How do I feel right now?” Do this often. Get in the habit of pulling back from the chaos of life for a minute to check in.

Do this with your loved one as well or when you ask someone this question, try to be real with the intentions of it. You may not intentionally be distracted from listening, but the more you try to practice the art of being present the less power unintentional distractions will have over us. Making eye contact is such an important power of connection. Our eyes can say so much. This is especially important when we live in a world where we must reduce the behavior of human contact / touch.

Recipes around here are not just about eating good food. It’s about the experience; the process of creating and all the little details surrounding the moments. Nourishment not only comes from the food, but from the art of living! Therefore, we crEATe. Most recipes are not very elaborate, because we do not have a lot of time and did not always have the resources. For us it has always been about joy, mindfulness, and simplicity. These are what help us create an efficient and sustainable flow. When we do have time and energy is when we dedicate a little more time to coming up with new ideas and recipes. Otherwise, we focus on what we have already established (our “go to”) recipes. “It takes time for things to take root”. To establish our wellness routines it took years to do the root work to create the right flow for us. Now, “gardening” is a much easier process, because we know what works for us and what does not. We are able to provide and nurture it all vs always have to start from scratch or do the repair work / damage control after months of not listening to our needs or proper understanding/regulation of such. We personally do not believe in “diets” in regards to short-term results and fixes. We believe in creating a path of wellness. It may pull concepts from different diet types, but it is about finding the concepts, recipes, ingredients, methods, and beliefs that work for your flow of life. Like we talk about in all of our content: “experiences over expectations”. Many diets can cause fixation and attachment to results. This can cause great anxiety and pressure over sustaining it or not meeting certain numbers. This type of energy can cause negative reactions in the nervous system of experiencing life. This nervous “energy” and reaction in the mind and body have great influence over digestion and gut health. Wellness is about the flow. There will be days when things naturally flow well. Other days will be more of a struggle, but if you have strong roots established, these days will not destroy your methods of creating, coping, or healing your path of wellness. So let’s crEATe!!!

Post and recipe from 2015, wow! Still a great smoothie recipe though! Enjoy the “force” of some powerfully good fruit!

An important part of Core Care is to create a planet, whether raising children or “re-raising” ourselves to have more compassion and commitment to understanding other cultures. We are better when we are able to come together to create with consciousness: share stories, make meals, dance, and live with one another!

Today, is Cinco de Mayo, a day many flock to Mexican restaurants, without little understanding of the meaning. (I too am guilty of not being fully informed). I know the gist, but not the details. By googling it, you can find this in most all descriptions: “the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.” I am not the greatest at knowing all the details of cultural history, but I try to further educate myself, do the research, and learn the roots of things I practice, support, or share about. However, what I am more concerned with is how we treat one another in the present days. It hurts my soul when so many things from other cultures becomes mainstream trends yet we treat the people from those cultures with such disregard and disrespect. I am not perfect. There is still so much more I want to do to do what I can to help us come together as a people, a planet. Sometimes the little actions can become the big actions. My son loves his Frida doll. He will learn that people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. Education is not just about learning the details of other cultures. It is more about learning how to be a conscious, loving, kind human. This is not to turn a blind eye to matters we should be concerned with. It is more about learning when we should be guarded and careful vs living in unconditional fear. Unconditional fear causes us to perceive everything and everyone that is something different as a threat. Consciousness is our guide to knowing how/when to protect our energy and how/when to share it with absolute compassion and love. We must nurture this consciousness through Root Education; the art of living.

I am so very grateful for my FIRST Mother’s day! However, I know what it is like for this day to be a trigger and feel like such a weight on your already challenging path. It took years for my mother to become mother. I repeated this same history. Becoming a mother was a journey! I created a workshop with a few simple root thoughts to help provide some coping tools for whatever your relationship may be to Mother’s Day. It is not just in regards to women. Men are often our partners and are birthed from mothers. Their journey can be full of gratitude or grief or both. The dynamics of our relationships are created by our roots. However, it is important to understand our roots are not the only defining moments of our life path. How we garden those roots ultimately determine what and how things will grow. Those moments in our root history define us, but there is always root work to be done.

A little reminder: Experiences over Expectations!!! Mother’s day can be added pressure for cooking, cleaning, gifting, etc, even if you have a husband that helps with these things. Sometimes the expectations of all you want to do gets higher and higher. I have to remind myself of this often, because I enjoy projects, cleaning, cooking, etc., but my reality of time struggles to meet my reality, because I believe in being fully present in all the details and experiences. If I was to rush past all those little details and moments, then I could absolutely get it all done. There were time in my past life, I did that. The achievements were great, but my heart, soul, and energy felt fully depleted, because I did not take enough time to be present with it all or consciously know how to set boundaries. I am still a work in progress, but I can whole-heartedly say I am present for so many more details, moments, and experiences.

Random recipe tip: Bake your favorite banana bread into muffins and add your favorite cheerios on top!

We are in Taurus season and approaching a Taurus New Moon. Today’s #crystalsandcoffee thoughts are a reminder to read the blog post: here and see the chart above for some Taurus vibes!!! We all feel the flow on some level in regards to how it connects with us!

Motherhood is sometimes just wearing what feels comfy, walking through life the best you can, and nurturing your creativity! It is important to pull back from the chaos of life to create those relaxing moments. Mother’s Day was enjoying time on our porch as a family, going for a hike, and taking a shower! Go to the places that make you feel the most connected to the spirit of life! We celebrated with our families in doses prior the day. We use to believe in BIG gatherings, BIG moments, but it is so difficult to be fully present and enjoy everyone when it is all swirling around. Sometimes it is great to do it that way. Other times, it is important to pull back, connect in doses, and do what nurtures the mind, body, and soul for more meaningful and personal connections.

Creativity tip: A shoebox can do so many things!!! In this picture, it became a garden!

For brief Taurus insights, be sure to check out the chart above!!! A new moon is the more introverted state of the moon; what’s below the surface or deep within?

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

The new moon vibes can leave us feeling pumped with fresh energy and invigorated for all the new things on the horizon. It can also have us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted from the discoveries and process of unearthing the deep energy and realizations. Even if you did not do the energy work to connect with all the vibes, you may still feel this way. You may just be unaware of the roots and rhythms that are making you feel such. When we are aware of how the moon pulls our energy, we can ride the waves. The moon is literally responsible for creating the waves in the ocean through the gravitational pull. The more we think of our energy like the tides, the more we can be in synchronicity with the flow of it all. Energy work doesn't have to be an in depth spirit quest or glamorous ritual. Sometimes it’s about taking a breath, a walk, or a simple moment to sort through the flow of the world within and all around. The little things can go a long way when conscious attention and intentions are behind it giving it the push to flow.

We can feel the push and pull of it all in our heart. Think of the heartbeat, the pulse of life, like the rhythm of the ocean. The wave crashes in, then recedes. The blood flows into the heart to soon be pumped out. The flow of life circulates through this energy. Energy and the properties of life flow within us and all around us. We can sometimes feel the weight of it all in our hearts. The more conscious we become, sometimes the stronger we feel it. Consciousness of this also helps understand the importance of rooting through this energy to properly release it. The more the energy remains stored in our hearts or blocked through our habits, the harder and harder it is to root, release, flow. The more we do the little things, the more they become a natural part of our flow leading us to the big things. Whether it is helpful or harmful, it’s the same concept. It all matters!

Examples of the “little” positive things that can lead to the big things:

  • Working on our posture not only benefits how we carry ourselves, but by trying to improve the alignment of our skeletal system this can aid in the nervous system by releasing pinched nerves and muscle tension. It can also aid in the flow of oxygen, circulation, and digestion. Our posture can influence every aspect of our life from sleep to eating to comfort to perspective.

You may be feeling some extra vibes pulling the heart strings. Taurus is ruled by the heart chakra. We are in the thick of Taurus season. Nurture your heart with all the green goodness.

A yummy smoothie recipe:

Mantras can help us build mindfulness in the moments. Tip: come up with a few that can help you cope thru any present circumstances you may be dealing with. Put them on index cards and keep them with you to flip through when needed or print them out and put them in places.

Eating is also about the experiences! Rituals, moments, and mood can go a long way!!!

What is one of your favorite moments with food?

What is a healthy ritual you do?

Core Care note: Life is just peachy when we make a little more time for the things we love!!!!!

Core Care Recipe:

Peaches hold even more potential power for our wellness than described below. Many factors can vary if we experience these benefits, but here’s a quick look at possible perks:

Shifting seasons can have us feeling all the feels!!! We are moving from the earthy, grounded Taurus to the free-flowing, airy Gemini. In Taurus season you may have found yourself laying low and focused on doing the root work of getting things done, reviewing, preparing, or anything equivalent to getting things in order. You may have been thinking from a more practical approach and pulling back to set boundaries and rest. For matters you felt important, you may have went full force in trying to take it on. Gemini season may have you feeling a little more flighty, wanderlusty, or believing in possibilities and dreams. This shift can be a breath of fresh air, but also tense for shaking up the order you created. Remember, control is an illusion and life is in motion. Create your flow! Use the chart above to help with these vibes.

Welcome to Gemini Season!! An air sign ruled by the throat chakra. See the chart above for a quick look.

Gemini is ruled by air. They may change their view, mood, residence, career, or entire life flow often. They like for things to be open and they believe in possibilities. If it is something they feel attached to, they become focused and pour their energy into it. Otherwise, good luck keeping up with a Gemini. They crave the freedom to explore and create life based on present vibes. Life is in motion. Geminis don't want to miss a beat. This season can have us feeling that!

Use the Gemini chart above to help you find some food inspiration for the season!!! Gemini is ruled by the throat chakra. Nutritious food and hydration is essential for healthy flowing Gemini vibes!!!

Energy in anything is a relationship; a dance of different components coming together to create the experience.

Let your creativity shine in it all!!! Exploring and creating; discovering and developing our art of living fills the heart!

Random recipe idea: whole grain, pumpkin, flax waffle!

Unplugging from our devices has become an even hard thing to do with the transformations of livelihood during COVID, but it's more important than ever to try to take time away when you can and create more authentic ways to get back to the roots of connection.

Think about how that warm cup of coffee makes you feel; it touches the soul! Think about how a hug can be comforting and empowering when shared with someone you love and trust. Our sensory experiences communicate to our nervous system how to perceive and digest the energy in those moments. Placing our hands in certain positions can simply help us focus this communication process.

A tip about meditation and energy work: don't force it! Sometimes it will flow. Sometimes it will not, but even those moments are teaching us something; patience, practice, perseverance!!!! The wildflowers will grow in the most unpredictable moments & places!!!

Food is more than just eating. It is often about the experience of eating. It is a relationship. Nurturing the things that make us feel well & happy can help us make better food choices. Think about all the little things you could do to help you crEATe your own sunshine!!
